Need to purchase gems to get a good outcome

The story is ok but i didnt spend any gems so i didnt win any popularity points with the students in the Mean Girls storyline and thus I didnt win student body presidency. You need to spend money in order to get any good outcomes. Ive done 7 out of 20 episodes so far and Im pretty sure Im not going to get the guy OR go to Yale unless I pay.
